[ISMS]
Okay, so let's count 'em out. Racism, sexism, heightism, ageism, homophobia [preferenceism], and everything else you can think of. You name it, there's someone narrow minded enough to believe it.
Some I understand, like being against the Yankee's because they beat your favorite team way-back-when... But that's about as acceptable as it gets.
Tollerence is not an option, it's a necessity.
People have the right to do what they want to as long as it doesn't hurt others. [I refer to my philosophy of 'whatever works']
What is wrong is hurting people. What is wrong is ridiculing people. What is wrong is hating people for things that are either beyond their control or stereotypes. It's wrong to hate those for who they are.
People who are some sort if "ist" [the match to ism's] are afraid. They don't understand or they think it's "icky" and suddenly they are against it. Humans, as a race, are fundimentally flawed in thinking that it is their way or the highway.
Everyone follows their own systems and their own whatever...
I'm a straight, short, female, jewish, athiest[ish] person.
Does that mean that I hate all gay/lesbian, tall, male, german, religious people? I could [if I was a fool], but I don't. It makes no sense to hate those for what they can't change or what I can't.
Think of it like this; if everyone was exactly like you, wouldn't it be awfully boring to be around them? And just imagine all the wonderful and unique people you are missing out on by hating them for something...
In reference to the German/Jewish "thing" I refer to the song "German. Jewish." by Ghost of the Robot. [Why, because one of my best friends is German. Besides, it just amuses the heck out of me, don't ask why.]
