[HOLOCAUST AS A SLOGAN]
Please note, this was an actual letter.
I recently saw an anti-abortion protest on my campus. One of the signs greatly disturbed me.
Please, help me understand the "Holocaust" (with pictures from the holocaust), and "America's Holocaust" (with pictures of children) sign.
Explain to me how the forced imprisonment, torture, and murder of six million people based on their ethnicity is comparable to people choosing not to give birth to a life they created.
I'm just confused as to how abortion imprisons and tortures unborn children based on their ethnicity. Are you insinuating that the womb is a prison for the baby/fetus? Is the so-called safe haven of our mother's bellies simply little more than a concentration camp? Or are you saying that only ethnic groups have abortions, while "white" women don't? I understand that you believe abortion is murder, but I fail to underslol tand the other two points.
Perhaps I am simply not seeing the "big picture."
The "big picture?" The Holocaust is not a slogan. It cannot be trotted out to represent every perceived injustice. Because we should all be thanking whatever we believe in that the Holocaust has managed to occur to such a scale only once. God forbid it might happen to some ethnic minorities that are not already being persecuted.
If anything could be related to the Holocaust in this day and age, it's the GENOCIDE in Darfur. The holocaust was about GENOCIDE. Abortion, whatever people feel ethically about it, is NOT genocide. It is not racial. It is not religiously based. It does not involve torture or imprisonment or forced tattooing or degradation to the fetus. America is not in a holocaust. If we were, we'd know it because six million people would be imprisoned right now, tortured and murdered, based on ethnicity. And the "white" people, the power in charge, would be directly responsible for those tortures, imprisonments, and murders. Are you claiming that the current Republican government is directly responsible for such atrocities? Is Bush now Hitler? Republicans now Nazis?
Thank you for taking your time to read this and help me understand the "bigger picture" about abortion. I hope I have helped you to understand a bit of the "bigger picture" about the holocaust, and how deeply inappropriate its misuse is. The holocaust cannot and must not be made into a slogan.
